Change is good, and sometimes bitter-sweet. I'm sad to leave all of my friends and co-workers at Gold Canyon but excited for the new friendships and experiences I'll have at Sherri May and Co. Starting Monday I'll be at a design agency in Phoenix where I'll work as the Senior Designer for a few months and then transition into the Art Director position! I'm looking forward to the growth and opportunity this new change will bring me. 2012 is already looking like a good year...

This is what I wished it would have looked like when I was in Utah for Christmas. Unfortunately we didn't get a White Christmas. But it was still fun to go ice skating in Midway, see the lights at Temple Square, and listen to the Cathedral of the Madeline's Christmas Service — all bundled up in my winter boots, scarves, coat and gloves. And the best part of course, hanging out with my family and friends.

Went to Foster the People last night — so much fun! They played at The Venue and the roof was some tarp/canvas thing so during the show it was dripping from the outside rain, kinda funny but kept us cool. Love that the nights here are cooling off. Monsoon Season is always a fun time of year — we get some spectacular lightning storms.

Stina's Surprise 30th — The Run Down

30 days prior to Stina's birthday we organized to have 30 of her friends and family write letters or send birthday cards and then starting on July 8th she received one letter outside the front door every day up until her birthday.

On Friday we said we were meeting up with some friends in Scottsdale at the Sugar Bowl for dessert, and then after we all went to dessert we happened to drive by the Hotel Valley Ho and ended up parking and saying we wanted to take a look around. We had decorated a room and had pictures, balloons and decorations hung up all over the walls. SURPRISE!!!! We planned a stay-cation to hangout in town all weekend with the girls. (Nat, Lace, Julz, Mares, Shell, Me and Stina) Super fun, we had all packed before hand and Shell was even able to pack Stina's suitcase so she didn't have a clue. Saturday we woke up and ate cookies for breakfast, went to the pool and hung out there all morning/afternoon, went to lunch, back to the pool for the dj pool party, went shopping at Fashion Square and then we had planned a surprise dinner with all of her high school friends, college and AZ friends. It was a blast and couldn't have been a better party and surprise weekend. We LOVE you Stina! Happy 30th hope you have a wonderful year — & welcome to the club.

Just purchased these new vintage glasses from Warby Parker. They have a pretty sweet thing going, when you buy your glasses they donate a pair to someone in need. They have donated over 50,000+ pairs to people all over the world. They are going to start selling their Sunwear line this August, and I already have 5 picked out for them to send me to try on at home so I can decide which one I want and then place my order. Really cool site and concept they've got going. I heart Warby Parker.

Love finding new places to eat, St Francis looks amazing. I was salivating as I was reading the menu. Tonight I am going to Zinburger in Scottsdale, can't wait! How amazing does the Zinburger sound; Manchego Cheese, Zinfandel Braised Onions & Mayo. Or the Samburger; Nueske's Applewood Smoked Bacon, American Cheese and dressing. All I know is I'm going to top it off with their Double Chocolate Mint Shake. YUM.

Fall
Oh... I love going home for the holidays, and this is one of my favorite family celebrations. The Reeses host our annual Halloween party every year and we all love dressing up eating Kristen's taco soup, drinking homemade root beer, munching on her ghost nutter-butters, and Meg's always spoils us with some of her tasty treats, this year is was caramel apples, caramel popcorn and chocolate covered strawberries! And then after all the feasting and photo taking there is the pumpkin carving. Love it. This trip we also went up to the Witch Fest at Gardner's Village, ate a ton of food, celebrated Nelma's birthday, drove the gorgeous Alpine Loop and had breakfast up at Sundance's Foundry Grill and just hung out on the front yard (I also mowed the lawn, which I LOVE doing). Oh, and last but not least I just got to hang out and hold my little nephew Aiden, and like stated in other posts, I'm in love... he is adorable. It was a perfect trip, perfect company and the weather and colors of the fall leaves were brilliant and breathtaking.

Adventures on Kauai

Hiked to Wailua falls
Bought green muumuu's at local thrift store (the lady working asked if Jmill, Jess and I were going to be brides maids. haha — we all walked out of the thrift store wearing our muumuu's. Good times)
Went swimming at our hotel Kauai Beach Resort, it was uber nice and the pools had sand that lead up to them and it even had a slide! (And yes we did go down it)
Yoga on the beach
Hiked to the 1st waterfall on the Na Pali coast. BEAUTIFUL.
Dinner at Mermaids with Jmills friends Sean and Renn
Hot tubing Hanalei
Kayaking and Paddle boarding
Ate at Bubba’s (teriyaki burger with cheese, grilled onions and pineapple — delicious! )
Hanalei beach (jumped off the pier)
Fresh coconut and other goodies from local fruit stand
Dukes for dinner
Pool and reading time at the hotel
Poipu falls (where we met Tarzan - seriously this guy was climbing and jumping from one rope swing to another)
and of course eating lot's of Hi-chews and Melona bars.

I love these islands. I really don't know why I'm not still living there but I loved going back and visiting. It was a great trip both on Oahu and on Kauai, couldn't have asked for a more perfect vacation...

Sailed on a catamaran (I was laying out on the front netting and dolphins came and swam right below me, it was A-mazing!)

Dinner with Hailey and Drew

Ahi’s Restaurant for a Mahi Mahi sandwich (except it’s not Ahi’s anymore – bummer)
Went to hike Diamond Head (it was closed and then I saw THE END OF A RAINBOW! I’m not kidding. I thought to myself “What does this mean?!!!”)
Fireworks in Waikiki I told you... romantic!
Maui Taco’s in Kailua with Jmill and Jess
Lanikai’s beach (white powdery sand and turquoise water, love this beach)
Ate many many Melona bar’s (honeydew creamy popsicle's that are to die for)

Relaxed, read, ate and soaked up some major rays (with 30 SPF, of course!) LOVE THIS PLACE

Last night my Dad (who is town for the week!), Chad, Katie and I all went out to eat at Liberty Market. They have amazing food and I am pretty much in love with their Picnic Salad { Mixed greens, turkey, caramelized pecans, green apples, blue cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette } It makes me salivate just typing this! Another favorite is their Starter Pizza { olive oil, rosemary, and pecorion-romano on some delicious bread } and then order hummus to dip it in. It's to die for!

HAPPY 30th CHAD

I have so many great memories with you, I just wanted to share a few that stick out. One of my favorite memories is when you wanted to go out with all of us kids to Magelbey’s Bar and Oyster Grill down at the Riverwoods. We ordered all sorts of delicious food and just ate and laughed and talked and you treated us all to that dinner. I don’t know why I cherish that memory so much but I just loved being there together and felt the love of everyone so strongly, and just felt that that is what it's all about, family.

Also I will forever be grateful how things worked out to all move out here to Arizona together. Over the time we were here you and I have really built up our relationship and I have loved it. I’ve loved all the church functions we’ve gone to together, and telling people I was your sister. Everyone always raved about how nice and cool and great you were (and still do…) and that made me really really proud to be your sis.

You have a heart of gold and you are always giving and serving and doing everything you can for others. A few memories of you doing just that is when you threw the birthday party for Blake Boynton and dressed him all up so he was stylin’ and we had cake and ice cream and danced and had a wonderful time celebrating Blake. I am sure he will never ever forget that birthday, and I don’t think I will either.

I’ve always thought you a hard worker and you have proven that true with so many things in your life, like working hard to go on your mission, serving faithfully and living your motto “All the rules, all the time…” working hard and sticking out your horrible summer doing security systems in Florida, working and making a difference in the lives of countless kids and families in all your jobs over the years, including Telos, Heritage, Anasazi, the Homeless Shelter in Phoenix, with CPS and with your crisis job. You have worked very hard to get not only your Bachelors but a Masters as well and with that, you are making a difference. And then in the Church every calling you have gotten you take seriously and put your whole heart into. Someone just the other day mentioned how you were the best Ward Missionary leader we ever had. And again, I thought, yep, that’s my bro.

So to sum it up I feel so lucky to be a part of your life and to be your sister. I love that families are forever and that we will always have that bond. You are one incredible guy and I will always look up to you and that big ole heart of yours.

Just got back from visiting Marn and Brett in Texas. I've never been before and I had so much fun! We hit up the beach in Galveston, went crab fishing off the jetty, rode a rickety old roller coaster on the boardwalk, went to an Astro's game, played games, watched movies, went shopping, swimming, painted, ate lots of Shipley's Do-Nuts (amazing!) and hung out with the ladies in their Sunnyside church branch. Definitely a grand ole time.

Cinco de Mayo

Today at work we could dress down if we wore one of our work t-shirts they've given us. I left mine at work so this morning I just put on another shirt at home and then put on my work one on top once I got into the office. I was just a little toasty so I am sitting at my desk and decide to take off one of the shirts. And you guessed it..... I am pulling it over my head and realize I don't really feel like I am wearing much and I look down and HELLO bright orange bra.... HAHAHAHAHHAHA. Brian is sitting behind me and I don't think he knows what just happened but I am stifling my laughs cause that was really funny.

Then to top it off I just ate a chocolate Sunday for lunch and went and talked to someone in HR and a few other peeps and then went to the restroom only to see that I have a smear of brown stuff under my nose (chocolate) I can't believe it. Today is my day for sure...

I'm an AUNT!!!
I flew to Utah this weekend to visit my family and was hoping Meggie would have her baby while I was there... even though her due date wasn't till May 14th. And just as luck would have it, the whole fam got together yesterday for lunch before I had to fly back to AZ, Mom and Aunt Sharon dropped me off at the airport and THEN Megger's went into the hospital and she had baby Aiden this morning! CONGRATS Megs and Steve-O!!! LOVE YOU GUYS. Can't believe my baby sis is now a momma cat! I will post some pictures as soon as I get a hold of some!

Summer is right around the corner and I can't wait! You make think to yourself, "Wait, don't you live in Arizona where it is blazin' hot during the summer?" and you are correct! I love this picture. And love how lucky I am to have such an amazing family. One memory I will forever cherish is moving out here to AZ with Chad, Marn and Megs. We all lived together and hung out together and I love that we were able to do that with each other. One of my other all time favorite memories is one night the four of us went to Magleby’s Grill and Oyster Bar down at the Riverwoods and had dinner and it was the best night eating and just hanging out laughing and talking. I am one lucky girl. They have been there for me through the good times as well as the hard. My parents are also amazing, they both have so many qualities I look up to and hope to become more like as I grow up. I also love the additions to my family, Brett, Katie and Steve are all wonderful people and I love having them as part of my family too. I guess I am just feeling super blessed to have such incredible people in my life to love and support me.

Just finished reading Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing. I LOVED this book. It was a great (true) story and an absolutely incredible adventure. I was amazed at the men's will to survive with how little they had and was blown away that they remained positive and were full of hope throughout it all. What amazing men, talk about enduring to the end.

NOtes on the BIRD:
Who would have thought I might consider going vegan....
I thought before Thanksgiving the job I wouldn't want to do would be to cut/carve the turkey. Well, after spending an intimate hour or so preparing the turkey (might I say I was almost in tears the whole time) I thought that big hunk of fleshy bird was the most disgusting thing I have ever touched. I was armed with plastic gloves and all, and at one point as I was trying to lift the 20lb sucker with one hand and with the other hand put it into the turkey bag I ended up HUGGING the turkey and wanted to die and then screamed when its shriveled up leg or I don't know what part it was flopped onto my forearm. Other things I learned or experienced: I didn't know that the neck was something I needed to remove (I figured everything that would need removing would be in that plastic bag), I tried taking off that plastic thing around the legs and had turkey juice squirt me right in the eye, and the worst part was that the night before Stacy told me I had to stick my hand in-between the SKIN and put butter in there. TRAUMATIC is all I have to say.

And yes, having a man around would have been nice for all that dirty work. Maybe next year.... It's either that or I am going out. :)

Annual Halloween Kickoff

Conference Weekend. Park City. Shopping at the outlets (JCREW) with megs, and then hit up my fav bookstore and had dinner at Main Street Noodle. Halloween Party with the fam (we missed dad, marn + brett and chad + katie). Nelma and I dressed up in our Halloween get-ups had to go pick up our pumpkins at Macey's (and yes, we got some good stares)! Kristin's amazing chili, ghost treats, homemade root beer, pumpkin carving and lots of picture taking, are some of the festivities and traditions that occur. Conference. Met up with Jmill and Jess for the morning session. Hung out with Ames and family, man do I ADORE those kids. Girls night out me + mom + meggie, went to the Witch Farms place and went to dinner. Conference Sunday: went to the afternoon session with mom. Very fall-ish weather drizzling with rain. Got to use my awesome zebra umbrella. Alpine loop. Beautiful fall colors. Hot chocolate with megs + steve-o up at Sundance. Lunch with my dad. Watched the sunset at the cemetery on the hill, Read Treasure Island. And had a wonderful fall trip.

Labor Day

Pinetop. Trish's cabin. My 2 man tent that held THREE (packed like sardines). Horseback riding. Lightning, thunder and rain storms. Reading Huckleberry Finn in the hammock. Hearts (yes, I did SHOOT THE MOON)! Croquet. Bike rides. Homemade ice cream. Good friends. Great weekend.

Flew into Athens
Lost taxi driver, miraculously found a small Latter-Day Saint church branch
Figured out the metro in downtown Athens
Found a hostel — dorm style with communal bathrooms/showers
Toilet paper does NOT go in the toilet
First and best Greek salad (minus the tomatoes)
Walked ALL over trying to find the hill to get up to the Acropolis
Took a night ferry to Mykanos
Hostel with turquoise doors and shutters
Windmills
Gelato — Yummm
Best crepe ham and cheese breakfast
Colorful white houses, cobble stone roads and bright splashes of color on the doors, shutters and trim
Beautiful bright pink and orange bougainvillea blooming everywhere
Rented ATV and drove out to the “Quiet” beach = Nude beach(OPA!)
Santorini
Volcano
Old village
Sailboat out to hot springs
Donkey ride up switchback mountain
Sunset into the ocean
Green Olives (delicious!)
Black beach — volcanic beaches
Naxos
Explored island on ATV
Got lost…
And Found, more naked beaches (man alive, they are EVERYWHERE, those Europeans… sure love basking in the sun)

Town, with all the fun restaurants along the marina, sailboats and white lights
